Return to Activities Update: Effective September 27th

This update is effective as of Tuesday, September 27th, 2022

After two years, SOPA has made the decision to discontinue tracking our COVID-19 Community Transmission rates and mandating an operating protocol based on those numbers. All levels of SOPA (local, regional and headquarters) will continue to follow the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 preventive actions.

  • SOPA will stop tracking those who test positive for COVID-19.
  • SOPA will stop requiring doctors notes from athletes or unified partners who test positive for COVID-19.
  • SOPA will stop sending weekly Transmission Rate updates.
  • We will not require COVID Coordinators for training sites, but someone will need to maintain site attendance (see below).
  • Training sites will no longer be required to screen participants.
    • IMPORTANT: You WILL need to continue to take attendance on your Screening and Tracking forms.
    • Our Sport Directors will begin modifying the EXISTING trackers over the next week to remove the columns that contain tracking information.
  • We have integrated the “acknowledgement of risk” (used to be referred to as the COVID-19 waiver) into our new SIGN UP forms so participants will no longer need to complete separate waiver forms.
  • Pre-event testing will not be required for overnight events unless there is SIGNIFICANT COVID-19 community transmission.
    • Community Transmission will be based on the higher of the state-wide rate or the rate where the event is being held.
    • Pre-event testing for overnight events will be for all delegation participants regardless of vaccination status.
  • We will CONTINUE to require a Site Registration Form which will be required for:
    • Registering training sites
    • Registering Local Program/Team Competitions and Invitationals
    • We NO LONGER need this form for meetings or social gatherings.

The health and safety of our athletes and volunteers is vitally important to us and as an organization we still remain cautious and aware of COVID-19.
