Virtual Run/Walk
Be a Virtual Runner or Walker
If you can’t make it to State College on April 24th to participate in-person at the 13th Annual Beaver Stadium Run for Special Olympics PA, but still want to get involved by fundraising and/or being part of a team, register today as a Virtual Runner/Walker! Join the movement toward making this world more inclusive by fundraising through our new Virtual Runner/Walker program.
What is Virtual Running/Walking?
Virtual running/walking is a way to participate that can be done at any location, any time, and at any pace at the distance of your choice (3.1 mile run or a 2 mile fun walk). You can walk, jog, use the treadmill, run outside, or you can participate in another "real-world" race. It's completely up to you! You can run your race at your own pace wherever and whenever you like. However, we recommend that you do your virtual run/walk between April 1st and April 24st to coincide closely with the official Beaver Stadium Run on April 24th.
Will Race/Walk Times Need To Be Submitted?
You don't need to submit a time in order to receive your official event t-shirt. Special Olympics PA believes in the honor system, so we will not require you to post "proof" of your run/walk. If you're registered, you will receive a t-shirt...it's up to you to complete the distance.
What are the fees & deadlines associated with the Virtual Run/Walk?
Regular Registration thru April 24, 2022
- Virtual Runner/Walker (all ages)
- $35 (includes cost of shipping t-shirt)
- Note: Cut-off date for t-shirts to be mailed prior to actual BSR event day is 3/31/22
- Registration after March 31st: T-shirts will be mailed 4 weeks after the event

How Do I Fundraise For The Virtual Run/Walk?
- Once registered as a virtual participant, your personal fundraising page will automatically be created. Virtual participants can be team captains, members of teams, participate in fundraising contests and become top fundraisers.
- Maximize your fundraising impact! Ask your friends and family to sponsor your efforts. Ask them to donate per mile, or donate a flat amount, for the total 5k or 2 mile walk. Please also keep in mind that there’s no set amount for sponsorship, so your friends and family can sponsor you at any level that’s feasible for them. You can also choose to pay more than the registration fee as an extra donation!
- Be sure to share your experience by using #VirtualBSR on any social media platform!
Tips & Ideas for Your Virtual Run/Walk
Use different apps like Google Maps, Map My Run, Nike Running, etc., to determine a 3.1 mile (5K) or 2 mile route near you! You can do this in a group, with a friend or by yourself. It’s up to you how you will participate? You can share your 5K or 2 mile Fun Walk with your friends, family, etc., through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram by using #VirtualBSR! Can’t Run 3.1 miles or Walk 2 miles in one day? No problem! You can break the distance up over multiple days to make it more manageable. All you have to do is register!
Sharing Your Virtual Run/Walk Experience
We welcome everyone to post selfies or photos of their run/walk progress to our Beaver Stadium Run Facebook page, and on their own personal timelines, using #VirtualBSR so that they might receive the congratulations that they deserve! Being a Virtual participant is an excellent opportunity for you, your friends, and your family to raise money and awareness for a good cause with global impact. You’ll be with us in spirit and show appreciation for people living with intellectual disabilities everywhere!
How Does Special Olympics Positively Impact Lives?
For 50 years, Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) has used the power of sports to transform the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and unite everyone by fostering community and building a more acceptable and civil society.
The Special Olympics experience fills a critical need in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and the demonstration of competence to themselves, their families and the community. Athletes learn developmental and life skills as the benefits of participation translate beyond sports, helping them to live more independent and rewarding lives. Special Olympics also provides a positive venue for families, volunteers, and donors to become part of a caring community, and to become involved in the movement.
Funds raised from the Beaver Stadium Run will have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of individuals with intellectual disabilities!
Your donation supports free year-round competition and training for the athletes of Pennsylvania. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of many.
