Overview & Description

Our Young Athletes program helps athletes with intellectual disabilities ages 2-7 develop motor, social and cognitive skills in an inclusive environment. Participants learn a variety of skills through innovative sports play, games, and activities.

What to Expect:

  • Basic sports skills like kicking and throwing a ball
  • Activates and play with others – both with and without disabilities
  • Focus on gaining motor skills, balance, flexibility, strength and coordination
  • Sessions scheduled at least once a week
  • 8 weeks of sessions
  • Social gatherings and friendship building

Unified Sports:

Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team based on age and skill level. Unified Sports encourage inclusion, acceptance and respect by having participants train and play together. Unified Partners are 8 years old or older and train and competes alongside an athlete. They are required to have completed:
  • Volunteer application
  • background clearance (if over 18)
  • Protective Behaviors Training
  • General Orientation Training (if over 16).
  • Time commitment: 1-2 hours per week during the sport season (usually 8-12 weeks)
