Beyond the Game: A Special Olympics Pennsylvania Profile Series
Meet 12-year-old Avery Waggle from Somerset, PA and her mom, Tamie. When we met Avery at the 2024 Winter Games, she was determined more than ever to make her mark and dance her heart out at the Victory Dance.

“I’ve been a Special Olympics Pennsylvania athlete for two years. Other than skiing, I play basketball and soccer.
I love that I get to exercise and make new friends, like Paul and Lilly and Matt.
I’ve been skiing since I was 3, so I wanted to be a skier for Special Olympics.”
“I love to dance and do ballet and hip hop. I also listen to a lot of music. I listen to Barbie, anything Barbie.”
“My favorite Special Olympics Pennsylvania memory is from last year. I got two medals at Winter Games. I got silver. I’m excited for the dance tonight because there’s going to be a lot of music.”
