Thousands of athletes, coaches, families, and friends representing all corners of Pennsylvania participate in Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s annual Summer Games at Penn State University in State College, PA.


The event is the largest statewide competition bringing more than 2,000 athletes and 750 coaches. Competition in athletics, basketball, gymnastics, swimming and tennis highlight the three-day event. Weeks of hard work and dedication in training is rewarded as athletes are cheered on and supported during competition by more than 1,000 enthusiastic volunteers.

What is Summer Games?

The Be a Fan Torch Run for Special Olympics Pennsylvania is a segmented non-competitive run (approx. 150 miles run) with 53 segments ranging from a 2.5 mile to 4 miles. The Run takes place in mid-May and features over 500 participants representing more than 50 law enforcement teams.

Our Torch Run partners are thrilled to be back in person and running the Flame of Hope for this year’s Summer Games.
