Youth Leadership and Advocacy
The Unified Youth Committee (UYC) is an organized group of a proportional number of students with and without intellectual disabilities who are devoted to promoting inclusion and improving their school climate. This committee meets regularly throughout the school year as they identify issues in their school and develop plans and activities to address them.
State Unified Youth Committee (UYC):
The state Unified Youth Committee (UYC) is a group of students from around the state who were nominated to be members of the state Unified Youth Committee (UYC). This organized group comes together to educate, motivate, and activate youth around the state in an effort to develop school communities where all young people are agents of change, fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities by utilizing the programs and initiatives of Special Olympics and Project UNIFY (PU). State UYC members will contribute valuable leadership skills and input to the state program by developing, engaging in, and promoting inclusive activities, events, and sports competitions in their local school communities.
