Due to the continued increase of COVID-19 cases, Pennsylvania’s highly anticipated Polar Plunge has shifted to an all-virtual event for the 2021 season. But, while the format has changed, the need for your support remains the same – helping to provide inclusive sports, health and school programs for 16,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities.

An Important Caution: You MUST exercise caution and personal responsibility in your Polar Pop activities! Special Olympics Pennsylvania cannot identify or control the risks of every activity.

Be smart, be safe, and be careful – for you and all who join you in your Polar Pop activity. Please follow all safety and COVID-19 protocols. Have fun with it; but above all, BE SAFE.

Special Olympics Pennsylvania normally conducts eight official Polar Plunges annually (found via this website). These events are sanctioned by Special Olympics Pennsylvania and are organized with safety precautions, such as divers, lifeguards, medical and emergency personnel, shelter, warming mechanisms, and emergency procedures in place to ensure a safe, fun experience for all our Polar Plunge participants. We take the health and safety of our supporters very seriously and encourage those endeavoring to participate in “cold water challenges” to consider displaying their bravery at an official Special Olympics Polar Plunge where they can plunge in a safe environment, while supporting a good cause.
