50th Anniversary Dance Celebration
Join us for a 50th Anniversary Dance Celebration on Saturday, December 12th from 7 – 8:30 p.m.
We will party with DJ Eric from Fireside Events as we take a tour through five decades of Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) history and milestones!
Throughout the evening we will be joined by special guests and share videos and stories from athletes and volunteers who have been an influential part of our movement.
Our organization’s success would not be possible without our athletes, volunteers and donors. So please consider helping us to celebrate 50 years, recap our moments of victory, and prepare to empower the next generation of Special Olympics athletes in a New Era.
Please also consider making a year-end gift by texting SOPA50 to 44-321.

Brief SOPA History
In May 1970, the first-ever Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) competition was held when 135 brave athletes participated in a small track and field competition at West Chester University. Fast forward 50 years, SOPA now serves nearly 20,000 athletes who participate in 21 Olympic-type sports and compete in more than 300 competitions annually. Through the years, SOPA has also created programming in the areas of Athlete Leadership, Healthy Athletes and Healthy Habits, Unified Sports, Unified Champion Schools, and Young Athletes. All of these initiatives have helped to grow the Movement in Pennsylvania and create inclusive communities.
