On April 12th, Wawa celebrated Wawa Day which marked a significant milestone in its history—the day it opened its first convenience store in 1964 and the day it launched The Wawa Foundation in 2014. During Wawa Day, the company also hosted in-store celebrations where The Wawa Foundation highlighted the incredible athletes of Special Olympics, one of its national charity partners.

This celebration, held at Wawa’s newest Center City store in Philadelphia, featured a check presentation to Special Olympics Pennsylvania by The Wawa Foundation as a result of a recent fundraising campaign and a separate grant to honor the 50th Anniversary of Special Olympics in support of Unified Sports Programs.

Thanks to Wawa for committing more than $200K towards our Unified Sports initiatives in PA and 5 other states! Our Special Olympics Pennsylvania Unified Soccer team headed to the Special Olympics USA Games in July, and our Unified Champion School - Parkway West High School were on hand at the ceremony along with Mayor Jim Kenney and Wawa Foundation President Jay Culotta.
